Shell Beach in oil, Beach Access 1, North Siesta Key, FL – WIDE VIEW

Shell Beach was painted en plein air and measured 12″ x 24″, in oil on canvas. It’s a view looking south from Shell Beach access.

The water body is known as Big Pass. Across Big Pass from Shell Beach is the south end of Lido Key, which is a beautiful county beach park. During many months of the year, boaters gather in the middle of Big Pass on a tidal sandbar island, known locally as Sand-Dollar Island. On holiday occasions there are hundreds of people on the island, enjoying the exclusive island setting and the awesome weather.

Shell beach is a county beach access, but has recently been in the news because the land owners would like to restrict beach walkers from walking along the beach in front of their property. Its a complex situation and hopefully, someday, it will be resolved.

In 1987, I lived in a home one lot in from Shell Beach Access. It was a wooden home on posts, making it a 2 story home. W called it a tree house. I loved walking Shell Beach and enjoying the beautiful sunsets. It was paradise.
